Rainy, dreary Friday
Well, our training seems to have come to a halt......the weather being just too miserable to ride. I don't mind driving through rain, now and again, BUT the heavy onslaughts that we are experiencing are NOT pleasant to cycle in. Visibility becoming a big problem as well as slippery conditions. I suppose we better get used to it, just in case this is waht we are to expect for 62 days this summer!! Yikes. Not the envision I have in mind when I think about cycling this great country. I see blue skies, sunshine, green trees, flowers, picturesque lakes, mountains, prairies.....all in sunshine. That picture changes dramatically when it is rainy and wet!!
Am not sleeping too well at night with lots of mental preparation and the reality that I will be putting my charished pet of 14 1/2 years, Jessi, to sleep before we depart. I think that she has had a great life and now has a cancer growth which must be bothering her. The original plan was to have my parents take care of her while we would be on our journey, however I feel that me being away from her for 10 weeks would be hard on her, she would be wondering "where is my mom"???... Although her care isn't too much, with this growth and keeping it clean and getting up at 5:30 each morning to get her out might be too much for my parents, who are 82 and 80. I wouldn't want them to worry about her either, and for my part I would be cycling every day wondering how everyone was.
Also to add to the mental stress the computer seems to be experincing difficulty. I cannot access the wireless network. This all happened after we experienced a power outage on Monday. Once the power returned and I realized that I couldn't get on line through wireless, I called the tech help line. Man, that poor guy on the other end must have thought "what a wing nut"... because after an hour trying to understand what he was explaining I ended up hanging up in tears due to frustration. The next morning I fiddled around and voila, I had wireless again. Then last night, the computer seemed to go ascrew again and now, once again, I have no wireless. We had planned on bringing the laptop along on our journey so I could keep in touch, but now with this wireless issue, I don't know what will happen. I don't want these "frustrations" to interfere with the purpose of the trip, nor cause added and undue stress.
Man, what ever happened to just "on and off" switches. I really like the KISS principle. Wouldn't it be ideal if you could just switch off and when you turned back on, everything was fixed!!
